About Synergy Phiysio + Pilates

Welcome

Welcome to Synergy Physio + Pilates

Situated just minutes from the SeaBus in North Vancouver, since 2005 Synergy Physio + Pilates is the home of ConnectTherapy™, the Thoracic Ring Approach™ and ConnectPilates™. These proprietary Assessment and Treatment models are designed to uncover your unique “story” and deliver a TrueWholeBody™ approach to physiotherapy — addressing your movement and injury history and creating an understanding of how each part of your body connects and supports the other.

By combining current research with clinical expertise – physiotherapist Dr. Linda-Joy (LJ) Lee and our North Vancouver physiotherapy team – will help find the underlying “Drivers” for your pain and dysfunction and change those movement patterns causing you discomfort. Helping you to heal and recover, so you can get back to doing the things you love to do. Whether it’s crashing down the side of a mountain on your bike, or simply playing with your grand-kids.

At Synergy we’re not just your therapist, we’re your ally in health. Committed to helping you meet your movement goals. Our entire North Vancouver staff, from our amazing front desk team to our equally amazing physiotherapists, are committed to helping you move, feel and be better.

Frequently asked questions

What is ConnectTherapy?

ConnectTherapy is a robust clinical reasoning framework developed by Physiotherapist Dr. Linda-Joy (LJ) Lee over her almost 30 years of clinical and research expertise. It includes novel techniques and a diagnostic algorithm that provides a clear pathway for all trained therapists to determine the root causes, or “Driver Profile”, of your symptoms and problems. ConnectTherapy includes the innovative Thoracic Ring Approach, LJ’s integrated assessment and treatment framework for the thoracic spine and ribcage. ConnectTherapy & the Thoracic Ring Approach are advanced physiotherapy models that recognize the connectedness between all parts of the person – physical, emotional, and mental health – and provide you the most efficient and effective ways of getting you back to doing the things you love. The power of ConnectTherapy is that it goes beyond just treating your symptoms, to finding the real causes behind your pain; knowing your “Drivers” then allows you to return to function better than before your injury and gives you the tools to prevent future pain recurrence and prevent future injuries.

Can Pilates at Synergy Physio + Pilates help with back pain?

Yes, Pilates is great for back pain! It makes your muscles stronger and more flexible, especially around your back and core. This helps your back feel better and gets you moving more easily. As well, our Pilates instructors respect continuity of care and true care integration so they work with our Physiotherapists to determine the root case of your back pain, your unique “Driver Profile”, and this informs our team so they can design the best combination of treatments and movement training for you individually, part of our TrueWholeBody approach.

Is the Thoracic Ring Approach helpful for everyone?

In the Thoracic Ring Approach, Dr. LJ Lee has created a robust, 3-dimensional assessment approach that can determine if there is dysfunction in your Thorax, and then determine if your Thorax is your “Driver”, or underlying cause of your problems, including problems with your sleep and other sympathetic system issues.
Not everyone has a Thoracic Ring Driver, and Synergy Physiotherapists use the Thoracic Ring Approach to determine if your Thorax needs to be treated or not. If your Thoracic Rings are the underlying cause of your problem, our therapists then use unique hands-on treatment techniques and exercise progressions from the Thoracic Ring Approach that will optimize your whole body function. You’ll breathe better, your Sympathetic System will calm down, and you’ll be amazed at how many systems of your body function better.

What should I expect on my first visit to Synergy Physio?

We believe that the most effective treatment requires a thorough, TrueWholeBody Assessment. Thus, on your first visit, we’ll chat with you to not only understand your pain, current symptoms and how these are affecting your life, but also seek to understand your unique Story of all the various life events, activities and past injuries that your body has lived through. This gives us valuable insight into possible compensations and adaptations that have brought you to your current experience.

All the features of your unique Story provide your physiotherapist with information on the most important aspects of your whole body posture and movement that need to be assessed. We then can do our TrueWholeBody™ assessment that combines feeling different parts of your body function in movements that are meaningful to you. We then use Dr. LJ Lee’s unique Drivers Diagnostic algorithm to determine your ConnectTherapy Driver Profile, and we will show you how your Drivers are impacting your symptoms and your ability to reach your goals. We’ll explain our findings and the treatment plan that is a plan just for you, to help you feel better, move better, and do the things you love!
