Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a method of treating acute and chronic painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system as well as other conditions such as respiratory, cardiovascular, gastroenterological, neurological, gynecological, urological, skin and mental disorders, and headaches. Traditional Chinese medicine believes energy or Qi is transmitted through pathways or meridians in the body and disease and/or pain is caused if the flow of energy is impeded. Thin needles are inserted into acupuncture points and when the body detects the needle it sends blood to the area. This stimulates the flow of Qi and helps to unblock the congestion and decrease pain.
In western medical terms, Acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system and releases your body’s natural chemicals to relieve pain, stimulate healing and promote physical and emotional health.
At Synergy Physiotherapy, Acupuncture is used within the ConnectTherapy & Thoracic Ring Approach frameworks, which means that it is used to aid in the treatment of the underlying Drivers of your problem. It may also be used to address other influences and help regulate increased sensitivity in systems like your Sympathetic Nervous System.
Acupuncture is safe and effective when performed by a trained professional. It is not recommended for those with a blood clotting disorder or on blood thinning medication. If you are pregnant you should inform your therapist and discuss if it’s the best treatment option for you. It is not unadvised in pregnancy, but certain points should be avoided.
