Lisa Nakagawa

Education: BSc, MPT

After being a patient herself at Synergy, Lisa was struck by how effective the ConnectTherapy™ approach was for not only relieving pain, but creating optimal, more effortless movement. Inspired by her experience as a patient, Lisa’s passion as a physiotherapist is to help her patients find their “Driver” and help them get back to being their best.

Lisa earned her Masters of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia. She has completed additional education including Level II with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, as well as, the Bobath concept which focuses on assessing movement with consideration of the nervous system. She is a ConnectTherapy Series Graduate (2019) and also completed Synergy’s 2019 Residency Program under the mentorship of Dr LJ Lee and Certified ConnectTherapy Practitioners Lindsay Geddes and Jane Bruce.

Lisa is also part of Synergy’s Performing Arts Program, providing specialized and unique care for dancers and performing artists. Lisa studied ballet and jazz at Flora Pigeau dance school (now Central Dance Academy) for 6 years, and had begun completing Royal Academy of Dance examinations. Unfortunately, Lisa developed severe foot pain which ultimately led her to switch sports entirely. Driven by her experience with injury, Lisa is passionate about helping performing artists preventing injury & continue to pursue their sport to their fullest capabilities.

Lisa uses her special training in the Thoracic Ring Approach™ & ConnectTherapy as frameworks to most efficiently and effectively implement her other manual therapy, dry needling and exercise prescription skills.

Outside of the clinic, Lisa is an avid skier, hiker, climber, backcountry camper, fisher, boater, and yogi. She loves the west coast and enjoys every aspect BC’s beautiful outdoors.

Whether it’s sport, work, or play – Lisa’s passion is to help you return to what brings you joy. She looks forward to meeting you and being a part of your healthcare team.
